Mile End Poets Festival 2011

On October 19th the Mile-End Poets’ Festival launches 5 days of poetry, music, readings, workshops and other literary, musical and dance events. Shows will take place on venues up and down St-Laurent Boulevard, and will feature poets, performers and musicians from Montreal and across Canada.

Founded in 2010, the festival is hosted by the poets of Montreal’s Mile End district, and showcases the eclectic literary, dance and musical culture which is so much a feature of this Montreal neighbourhood.

Out of town guests will include:

·     famed graphic novelist Eric Drooker, whose collaboration with Allan Ginsberg recently made the leap from the page to film,

·     Dervish and performance poet Tanya Evanson, who splits her time between Vancouver and Istanbul

·     Poet Ali Riley, whose third book of poems, Mile Zero, will be released by Frontenac Books this spring.

From the local scene you can catch a host of the people who live play and perform in and around the Mile End district.  Featured poets include Ian Ferrier and Pharmakon MTL, Ravensara (featuring Moe Clark and Alessandra Naccarato), Kaie Kellough, Jason Selman, Odessa Thornhill, the Throw Collective’s Deanna Smith and many others.

Major funding for the festival comes from the Canada Council for the Arts.  Other sponsors include the Quebec Writers’ Federation, Janejane Productions, Wired on Words Productions, CKUT 90.3FM, and the Suoni per il Popolo Festival.
