Soles of Australia is an international tour taking two Performance Poetry artists (Joel McKerrow and Michelle Dabrowski) from Australia over to Canada for a one month tour of Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. As Community Arts Workers both Joel and Michelle are focused on promoting the rapidly developing spoken word arts sector found within Melbourne. Performance poetry in Melbourne has become a viable prominent force in the international performance poetry industry- through such events recently as the hugely successful 'Global Poetics tour' (www.globalpoetics.com) hosted by The Centre for Poetics and Justice and and the curation of 'Slamalamadingdong’ of which Michelle is the Slam Master. Joel McKerrow and Michelle Dabrowski are two poets who have each played a large role in shaping the development and direction of performance poetry in the cities of Montreal and Melbourne. Soles of Australia will see their experiences collide beyond the page, onto the stage and within workshop settings to help manifest ties between Canada and Australia's spoken word poetry communities. It is at this time that the quality of the Performance Poetry scene in Melbourne Victoria is ready to reach across the globe in such initiatives as the Soles of Australia Tour.

Michelle Alina Dabrowski is a multi slam champion spoken word poet, arts educator, community builder, events co-ordinator and full time rib cage rattler. From the acclaimed Blue Metropolis Festival in Montreal (2007) to Melbourne’s Forum Theatre (Arts Festival, 2009) Michelle has been a featured guest on stages across England, New Zealand, Canada and Australia. Hailing from Toronto Canada, Michelle is the founding Co-ordinator of the Throw Poetry Collective (Montreal) and co-producer of the live spoken word compilation album ‘321...Throw!’  Michelle has been earning her stripes as a connoisseur in the craft of spoken word poetry for the past eight years. She is the producer of and Slam Master to the highly attended Melbourne poetry slam series ‘Slamalamadingdong!’ Michelle works as a Super Poet for Australian Poetry and was a recipient of the Arts Victoria, Artists in Schools Grant (2010.) Passionate about inter-arts collaboration, performance is the means by which she builds an understanding with diverse audiences on a vulnerable and human level. She has been known to spontaneously break into Polish or Jamaican accents mid-conversation and has been likened to a meerkat, standing tall, stretching out her white blonde fur to the sun, always found in community. Michelle has just released her first book of poetry Curb Side Angel Spit.
